The 2010 Winter Olympic games officially open tomorrow night and Canadians are hungry for gold.

The Olympic medals, designed by Omar Arbel and Corrine Hunt, are stunning. The unique undulating surfaces are representative of the rolling landscape of the greater Vancouver area while the laser engraved west coast aboriginal artwork is a tribute to Canadian culture.

The design of the medals went through a number of phases, starting out as a locket, but eventually landing on the extraordinary design we now see. Below are a few preliminary designs on the medals and the final versions. Enjoy!
