We are all familiar with the Telus ad campaign that has been running for years, featuring a simple white backdrop and cute animals. But I would guess that most of my Canadian friends haven’t seen this really innovative campaign created for AT&T.

1. Search Engine Optimization
Search Engine Optimization is the process of increasing a website’s PageRank within popular search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and Bing. SEO is a good idea for any business, large or small, because it allows you to drive traffic to your website via organic search results.
There are two factors that determine a website’s SEO, those factors are Relevance and Importance. Relevance is exactly what you would assume, if my search query is “Calgary Flower Shop” you can bet I’m not searching for used tires. Therefore, ensuring the content on your website is Relevant to the most popular search queries increases your website’s chances of ranking for popular keywords.
A website’s Importance is similar to a high school SRC election, the most popular person (or in this case website) will win every time. But unlike a high school election, popularity on the web is determined by links not votes. In short, the more websites that link to you, the more popular you are (and you thought high school antics were far behind you).
The Basics of a CMS and Google Analytics
Some of the most popular online marketing tools today are Content Management Systems. A CMS is an online interface that is integrated into a website; it allows the user to make revisions and updates to a website without having to know anything about web scripting languages.
The CMS we use most frequently at Calin Daniel Creative is called WordPress. WordPress is an open-source CMS know for its easy to use interface and blogging capabilities. Below are a few videos I’ve created to highlight the WordPress interface.
Things That Are “Awsome”
This week I couldn’t bring myself to write another design blog, especially after finding one of the internet’s most effective time-waster websites. The website is www.oddee.com, a website that features interesting but useless information on any and every subject. Oddee generates over 5 million views a month and it’s no secret why (insert “it’s more addictive than…” analogy here).
So in an effort to time-burgle from your employers, I’ve put together a list of “Things That Are Awsome”. Band logos, much like band posters, are cut from a different cloth than traditional branding. The logos are usually designed by amateur graphic designers giving them a raw, artistic, non-traditional style and feel.
